A new class of generalized Lindley distribution: Inferences and applications

Deepmala, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Umesh Singh, Dinesh Kumar

Abstract

The Lindley distribution is one of the most extensively used distributions for modeling lifetime data. In this paper, the exponentiated exponential Lindley distribution (EELD), a generalization of the Lindley distribution, is proposed. By suitable choice of the parameters, it reduces to the Lindley distribution (Lindley, 1958) and the Generalized Lindley distribution (Nadarajah, 2011). A comprehensive account of the mathematical and statistical properties of the proposed distribution is discussed. The proposed distribution has increasing and bathtub-shaped hazard rate. Moreover, the estimation procedure by the method of maximum likelihood is developed. Finally, three real lifetime data-sets, representing failure times of ball bearings, survival times of head and neck cancer patients, and waiting times of bank customers before service, are considered to illustrate applications of the proposed model and to clarify its flexibility in comparison with other existing models.

Keywords
