A New Family of Lifetime Distributions with Real Life Applications

Adil Rashid, T. R. Jan

Abstract

In this paper we construct a new family of lifetime distributions which is obtained by compounding Lindley distribution with power series distribution the new distribution so obtained is known as Lindley power series (LPS) distribution that generalizes Lindley geometric distribution due to Zakerzadeh and Mahmoudi (2012). In addition to this, the new family so obtained contains some special sub models such as Lindley binomial, Lindley logarithmic and Lindley Poisson which are very useful for modeling lifetime data. Furthermore, some mathematical properties such as moment generating function, moments, hazard function, survival function, order statistics and estimation of parameters via maximum likelihood estimation method are also studied. Sub models of LPS family are also investigated in detail. Finally the potentiality of proposed family is justified by using it to model the real life data set.
