A Selection Procedure to Select Best Population Based on Decreasing Mean Residual Life

Parameshwar V. Pandit, Shubhashree Joshi

Abstract

This present study considers the problem of selecting the ‘Best’ population among the several populations which belong to decreasing mean residual life (DMRL) class of life distributions. The selection procedure is based on a measure of departure from exponentiality towards DMRL. The measure considered here for determining the strength of DMRL property of populations is the measure considered by Li, Cao and Feng (2006) to test exponentiality against DMRL. The selection procedure is based on large sample properties of the statistic proposed in Li, Cao and Feng (2006). The performance of the selection procedure proposed here is evaluated in terms of probability of correct selection (PS).
