A Folded Laplace Slash Distribution and Its Applications

Maryam Nojoumizadeh, Zahra Saberi

Abstract

We introduce a new distribution called folded Laplace slash distribution. The proposed distribution provides an alternative choice in simulating and fitting skewed and heavy tailed distributions with non-negative supports where the tail probabilities are heavier than the folded normal slash. Certain properties of this distribution such as the kth moment, skewness, kurtosis, the moment generating function, Lorenz curve, Shannon entropy and estimation of the parameters are investigated. Also, some reliability properties of this distribution such as thereliability function, the hazard rate function, the mean residual life function are derived. Finally, the proposed model is applied to a real data set and the results are compared with
those of some heavy tailed distributions such as folded Laplace distribution.

Keywords
