Abstract

Ultrasound (US) image 3-D calibration for freehand probe is fundamental research for computerize 3-D ultrasonic (US image model reconstruction). It is a technique to calculate the spatial relationship between the US image and the tracker attached to the US probe using least square matching (LSM) and singular value decomposition (SVD). The calibration precision is investigated based on the ultrasound image and the magnetic tracker in our research. The calibration precision is demonstrated by calibration matrix from the centre points to the edge points in the ultrasound image and analysis the statistics data. The standard deviation (SD) results show that the centre points provide the almost same precision as the middle points, but higher than the edge points. Consequently the accurate calibration matrix is obtained based on the points from the centre to the edge in the ultrasound image.
