An Evaluation Algorithm of Edge Circle Rule for Impact Craters of the Moon

Lei Huang, Mengxue Wang, Zhonglin Tang

Abstract

Impact crater of the moon is an important feature of geological structure on the surface of the moon. According to the definition and assessment method of roundness error, the judgment of roundness error for the impact crater edge of “Chang’e 1” CCD satellite image is conducted in Minimum Zone Circle Method, Least Square Circle Method, Minimum Circumscribed Circle Method, and Maximum Inscribed Circle Method in the paper. Then, by virtue of improved BP neural network, the result of roundness error obtained by combining the four evaluation algorithms is taken as the evaluation index of circle rule grade. In the end, the evaluation model of circle rule is loaded onto the digital moon platform developed independently for result demonstration. The circle rule grade is set to be 0 to 9 grades, and the shape alteration of impact crater edge is quantized by 10 grades.
