Investigating Great Defects of AHP and Introducing PAHP Techniques for Prioritizing

A. Mansouri

Abstract

Analytic Hierarchical process (AHP) which introduced byThomas L. Saaty, has efficient methodology, promoted as powerful tool for multi criteria decision making so that its application expanded in many fields of decision science. Nevertheless, this technique has been criticized by many scientists, but most of these critics seem not to have basic foundations that can impact seriously on the mainframe of powerful AHP technique. But the current paper aims to describe fundamental defects of AHP that is worth paying close attention and then suggests an efficient PAHP (Percentile Analytic Hierarchical process) which will improve the credibility of technique in application. PAHP is not only based on well-defined mathematical structure of consistent matrices and their associated right eigenvectors but also completely understandable for all decision makers from starting point to final conclusion. For this purpose, at the first step the AHP technique will be summarized and by stating its defects, the new approach to AHP as PAHP will be introduced. However, current technique will be able to be generalized to FAHP, ANP and FANP too.
