Robust Exponential Ratio and Product Type Estimators for Population Mean Using Order Statistics in Simple Random Sampling

Sanjay Kumar, Priyanka Chhaparwal

Abstract

An appropriate method of estimation is very important in any research. In simple random sampling setting, ratiomethod and product method of estimation are widely used for estimating population mean when the correlation between study and auxiliary variables is positiveand negative respectively. In this paper, we incorporate robust exponential ratio type and product type estimatorsusing modified maximum likelihood and their properties have been obtained theoretically. One real life application for the support of the properties of robust exponential ratio type estimator has also been studied. Robustness properties of the proposed ratio type estimator have been studied which illustrates that modified maximum likelihood estimators (MMLEs) in estimating finite population mean results to robust estimates under non-normality or other data abnormalities such as outliers.
