The Influence of Strong Earthquakes on the Global Economy: Facts and Assessment
Abstract
The article is devoted to evaluating and forecasting the impact of strong earthquakes on the global economy based on case-study of Tahoku earthquake of 2011 near Japan. By statistical analysis of the global and regional stock indexes, macroeconomic data of Japan we assessed an impact of Tahoku earthquake on the world economy. It is argued that globalization increases an impact of the strong earthquakes in developed regions on the world economy. As a recommendation for global financial organizations we suggest to develop measures for mitigating risk of possible strong earthquakes for world economy.
