Abstract

With the importance devoted to the protection of the natural environment, the computer simulation of contaminant transport in groundwater has acquired recognized importance as a tool for the prediction of future. In this context, we present a random fields generator for building a Monte Carlo model that simulates radionuclide transport in the context of the risk analysis for radioactive waste in deep geological formations. We focus our analysis on one important parameter: the retardation factor appearing in the contaminant transport model. Since, in general, the parameters of the geological medium are sampled from given probability distribution functions, we propose to work in a statistical framework by generating random fields for parameters with a simple fast and efficient algorithm. We use a simulator of non-gaussian fields suggested by Mikhailov connected with a stationary fluxes of points that give processes called Palm fluxes.
