Ultrasound Image Enhancement using Pattern-Matching Techniques

An important problem in ultrasound image processing is finding the edges of structures and enhancing weak borders between different organs and tissue structures. An approach was developed to detect and enhance edges adaptively based on the technique of image block pattern-matching. We can obtain the "local correlation image"(LCI) from the image block correlation. Based on this image, we apply an adaptive edge enhancement method to process the ultrasound image. This study shows that our detection technique using LCI works well to enhance edges and borders.
