Simple Backstepping Control Design for the Rotor - Side Converter of a DFIG Wind Turbine Generator

Le Ngoc Giang, Liu Kaipei

Abstract

Wind Turbine Generator uses asynchronous motor with The stator winding is connected directly to the grid, while the rotor is fed at variable frequency through the converter . The control of generators’ parameters, to ensure that they work in harmony with the grid, is dependent on rotor circuit; as rotor circuit has smaller capacity, the capacity of power control system is hence smaller, which leads to significant cost-reduction for the system. Researches and designs of the controller with the aim of ensuring generator to stably work on the grid is currently attracting attention of scientists. In this paper, the authors propose to utilize Backstepping method in simple-controllers design to improve the working stability of generator on the grid. Simulation results have shown that the system meets the technical requirements and can feasibly be applied in practice.
