Optimized Sinc Power Pulse for Reducing Inter Carrier Interference in OFDM System

Zhijun Zhang, Xiaoyan Zhao, Xintao Duan

Abstract

For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication systems with high mobile speed, inter-carrier interference (ICI) occurs due to the carrier frequency offset (CFO) that results from Doppler spread and the drift in oscillator frequencies of the transceiver. In this paper, a method for reducing ICI is proposed by using optimized sinc power pulse (OSPP) in OFDM system. Using a parameter to optimize the sinc power pulse’s sidelobe levels, the new OSPP method can reduce the intensity of ICI in OFDM system. Simulation results show that, compared with existing sinc power pulse (SPP) method, the OSPP outperforms the SPP in high mobility environment, and OFDM system with OSPP can achieve better bit error rate (BER) performance by 0.4dB than that with SPP method when the normalization frequency offset is 0.15 and the BER equals to 10-5.
