Application of Automata Theory in Drilling Simulator

Zhang Jing, Chen Xiao-jun, Chen Zhi, Ren Xue-mei

Abstract

DS-7 Drilling Simulator is an electronic device providing training to top drive drillers. The system software includes three subsystems, such as parameter software, master control software and graphics software. Master control software plays an important part on simulating drilling process, but, the software is based technological process, and it has limitations on operation. The technological process of tripping is taken as an example to describe how to use finite automata theory to design software to respond any operations by user. First, the technological process of tripping is introduced, and then the way to extract the states and actions is emphasized. After analyzing how to identify the features of state, the program is designed. It has been improved by practice that using the automata theory to design software makes the system have the features of strong expansibility and good flexibility.
