Mathematical Modelling on Inter Conversion of Primary to Secondary Pollutants in an Urban Dome Using Cylindrical Polar Coordinates under Dirichlet’s Condition

Manju Agarwal, Vivek Joseph

Abstract

A study has been made on the inter conversion of primary to secondary pollutant from a point source in an urban dome using cylindrical polar coordinates. A mathematical model was proposed to describe the above problem by considering a steady state three dimensional convective diffusion equation in cylindrical polar coordinate under Dirichlet type boundary condition with removal rate. It was assumed that the wind’s speed should not be high otherwise it may destroy the dome structure. The observation reveals that the wind’s speed promotes the concentration of primary pollutant to increase whereas the concentration of secondary pollutant approaches to significant value at higher downwind distance. However the study provides a necessary picture to understand the variation of concentration of both pollutants in an urban dome in all the directions.

Keywords
