The Improvement Steps of Intrusion Detection System Architectures for MANETs

Farzaneh Pakzad, Marjan Kuchaki Rafsanjani, Arsham Borumand Saeid

Abstract

A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a group of wireless nodes do not rely on any fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. So, the security issue is becoming a main concern in the applications of MANET. Attack prevention measures, such as authentication and encryption, can be used as the first line of defense for reducing the possibilities of attacks and verily intrusion detection system (IDS) is the complementary mechanism and the second wall of defense in mobile networks. This paper aims to explore and to classify current architectures of Intrusion Detection System that have been introduced for MANETs, and compare some important aspects such as performance and overhead in these architectures. Finally we provide some directions for future researches.
