Numerical Simulation of Calculating Water Direction Using Tracer

Zhou Yazhou, Yin Daiyin

Abstract

With the development of computer technology, applied mathematics and reservoir engineering, the numerical modeling of oil reservoir has played a more and more important role in the oilfield development. Flow equation of interwell tracer was established in the paper. The paper also gave the application of tracer to determining the direction and interval water proportion method according to flow equation of interwell tracer. Based on the theoretical model just built, the authors studied the influence of the concentration of the tracer, the injection volume of a water-injection well and the well spacing to the peak plasma concentration. Combined with the physical truth of the injection of tracer on Xing-Ⅱ block, Daqing oilfield, it has carried out a study on numerical modeling, and finally confirmed the totality direction and amount of the well group along with the major horizon which is containing water and each target’s reservoir inflow. The results showed that the method can judge the low efficiency or invalid water injection on the later stage of high water cut period as well as the watered-out direction of the oil well and the horizon containing water. It also provided a ration gist for measures such as profile control and flooding.
