Heterogeneity of Dynamic Allocation Promotes Cooperation in Networked Public Goods Games

Chi Zhang, Yang Zhao, Minghui Wang

Abstract

We investigate the effects of dynamically heterogeneous investment and distribution on the evolution of cooperation in the context of the public goods games (PGG). Abundant real examples imply that heterogeneity of allocation could be an important mechanism impacting cooperation level in the PGG, in a more complicated way instead of simply promoting the cooperation density. To study this phenomenon, we develop a simple model in which each individual dynamically allocates differing funds to every PGG he/she engages, due to the tendency to more investment in profitable games. At the end of every term of the game, individuals count their payoffs from every PGG neighborhood (local payoffs) and overall payoffs, and then decide their donations to each neighborhood, according to the proportion of local payoffs to overall payoffs. Finally, the relationship among cooperation density, multiplication factor, social diversity and average degree is investigated. The simulation results suggest that heterogeneity of dynamic allocation can facilitate cooperation to a stable level rapidly.
