Fairness Analysis of Mobile Payment based on SET Protocol

Honggang Lin

Abstract

The mobile payment based on SET protocol is secure protocol commonly used in mobile e-commerce, and fairness is one of the most important security properties of it. In this paper, the strand space model is expanded, and fairness of mobile payment based on SET protocol is formally analyzed from two aspects: the participants' quitting or aborting the protocol because of system failures. The security vulnerabilities on fairness of the protocol are discovered and an improved protocol is proposed to overcome the security shortages. The improved protocol is formally analyzed with the expanded strand space model. The result shows that the improved protocol is proven to be satisfied with the fairness requirement and maintains the good performance of the original protocol.
