Test for shift in the production of food grains in India
Empirical analysis of structural change or shift in the production of food grains (rice, wheat, cereals, pulses) of Indian states during the period of sixteen years from 2000-01 to 2015-16 is studied through chow test and dummy variable approach assuming a linear relationship between production of food grains as dependent variable and irrigated area of rice, wheat, cereals, pulses as independent variables. This test for shift in the production of food grains is done within the states of each zone and among the zones during 2000-2016 as well as between the two periods 2000-2008 and 2008-2016 in each zone and India as a whole. For the purpose of this study the relevant data is extracted from the “Hand Book of Statistics on Indian States” published by Reserve Bank of India.
