Are Shocks to Tourism Revenues Permanent or Transitory? The Turkey Case

Burak Guris

Abstract

This paper investigates whether the shocks to tourism revenues in Turkey are permanent or transitory by using the Caner and Hansen (2001) estimation strategy. We find that tourism revenue is nonlinear and characterized by a unit root process over the period of 1997:01 to 2008:03. These findings indicate that the shocks to tourism revenues have a permanent effect in Turkey.
